Aircraft Maintenance Engineering

Training for the AME Course at HIET has been approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The AME License Examination is conducted by the DGCA, Govt Of India. The duration of training at the institute is 2 1/2 years, over five semesters and followed by one semester(six months) of post Institutional Apprenticeship in a flying club, airlines or aircraft operator. Different types of engines in our workshop give an opportunity to the student to study the various theories of propulsion and flight characteristics of an aircraft. The reference books, Periodicals, Aviation magazines and text books in our library keep the student abreast with the knowledge in the aviation field. In short, HIET provides all facilities to make a student a successful Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.

SUGGESTED PROCEDURE
The basic papers for the AME License Examination conducted by the DGCA, New Delhi are:
On completion of the II Semester (1 year completion) an AME student is advised to appeal for the Basic Paper I of the AME License Examination conducted by the DGCA, New Delhi and at the end of two years for Paper II. Similarly, on completion of the V Semester (2 1/2 years of completion) an AME student is advised to appear for the Basic Paper III on Airframe/Engine/D.R.Compass.

The advantage of passing the Basic Papers, I, II & III (L.A./P.E/D.R. Compass) as early as possible is that it will be much easier for the student to acquire the much easier for the student to acquire the much coveted AME License later on by passing only in specific Paper IV applicable to the type of Airframe/Engine and Avionics Systems (E.I.R) on which he/she has gained the requisite practical maintenance experience as per Aircraft Rules/CAR. Also, after passing paper I,II & III he/she will be eligible to get a Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Certificate (BAMEC) from the DGCA which wiill enable the student to get a job in the aviation industry. Moreover, an AME student has to clear Basic Papers I, II & III before he/she will be allowed to appear in specific Paper IV. This is a pre-requisite as per the DGCA. Special emphasis is laid while preparing the candidates for the Basic Papers I,II & III.

ASSESSMENT
It is mandatory for a student to put in a minimum of 80% attendance in every semester to appear for the examination and also for promotion to the next semester. The minimum pass marks in any test or examination is 70%. Students short of attendance are not qualified for the promotion to the next semester and may be denied. They will be required to pay additional fees and other charges for the semester.

ELIGIBILITY
The minimum qualification for admission to the course is a pass in 10 + 2, or equivalent "A" level with aggregate of 50% marks in Maths,Physics& Physics or Diploma with 50% marks in related field or G.C.E. (A) Sr.Cambridge/ East Africa School Certificate (A) or equivalent with eligibility to pursue a degree course in Science in an Indian University.
(There will be two sessions every year i.e. one session starting in january and the other starting in july).
