Meteorological Observatory

The Institute runs and maintains MARVEL Meteorological Observatory on behalf of the Meteorological Department of the Government of India. Regular meteorological data regarding the weather at MARVEL is recorded and transmitted by the observer under the supervision of a Professor In-charge appointed by the Director of the Institute, who is the Honorary Superintendent of the MARVEL Observatory.

The Observatory conducts various experiments like sending of Hydrogen balloons into the higher atmosphere to study its characteristics. These results are shared with the various Meteorological departments with which the Institute is in collaboration, so that the research time spent is made proper use of and also to tally results obtained by various other researchers so that the conclusions drawn become far more accurate than the conclusions drawn from just one experiment. These results are also published in the newspapers after being scrutinized by the Meteorological Department of the Government of India and also in the college magazine which would be printed annually.
