Centre for Software Development (CSD)

Centre  for Software Development (CSD) has two wings namely the CSD Media Laboratory  for IBM Visual Age for Java and DB2. The  Media Laboratory provides a forum for Development of Quality  Software and Multimedia based courseware by teams of faculty and students of the Institute.

The Main  Objectives of this  centre are:

1) Providing an Enabling  avenue whereby the ongoing software development activity at MARVEL  is integrated     and       chanalized  for better utilization.

2) Providing a forum where the Development activity at MARVEL may find a wider utility  and the intellectual  capital available at MARVEL  tapped towards Development of Quality Software for use by Potential clients.

3) To harness the young  and Enthusiastic  Talented students towards Software Development  activities  thereby  widening the manpower base that can be absorbed in  the Computer Industry.

4)To  Develop  and conduct short term and long term  courses  with  a view  to Manpower  Development  in the area of Computer  Software .

5) To   collaborate  with  Industries / Institutions  Interested   in similar activities.

6)To engage in creative generation  of ideas that go towards Innovative Software Development.

7)To Document the Salient aspects of the Software Development through Journals and News letters.

The Centre  makes use of a variety of Hardware platforms already existing in the Institute for Software  Development activities. However , to augment its capabilities the following  systems have been added in the centre.

* HARDWARE:

Twenty Pentium based Multimedia workstations. Servers -one IBM  Netfinity  3000  and one IBM  Netfinity  7500 server  with  four CPU's ,  IGB RAM  and  53 GB HDD  with RAID  support, Digital Video Camera (Kodak  DVC  325).

*SOFTWARE:

Windows 95/98/NT/2000, Linux, Free Age  for  Java, IBM   DB2  UDB  ,  Author ware ,  Adobe  Photoshop, Microsoft Office,  Oracle   8i,  Lotus  Notes/ Domino , Power  Builder, FrontPage 2000, MS  Exchange  Server  etc.

  The Centre has adopted Multimedia  Software  Engineering , Object Oriented Methods, Video-on-Demand  and User  Interfaces as its primary thrust areas.

The centre also provides consultancy in selected areas to the external and internal agencies and is responsible for generating many of its own  resources  through Internal Revenue Generation.
